Fit in the crown: Michael Jackson is the King of Pop, Elvis Presley was the King of rock'n'roll. Both men commanded the pop culture landscape like graphics. Both men reflect on their industry, and dozens of artists.
Both men died suddenly and only middle-aged.
Jackson, whose landmark Thriller broke records and racial divides, whose smooth moves as a dance revolutionized pop and tendency to take title helped burnish its brand, and after child abuse, allegations that helped tarnish well rested today after found unconscious in Los Angeles area home.

Jackson dies of cardiac arrest around noon, according to his father, Joe Jackson, and never recovered. He was pounced dead at 2:26 pm, officials said.

Music is the eternal Peter Pan 50. At the end of the King of Pop outlived Presley, whose daughter Lisa Marie Presley Jackson will be Wednesday, just eight years.

From child star to music icon reflects on the life of Michael Jackson with our collection of photos.

"There really does not matter if you start to talk about at-looming, the dominant figure in 20th century pop music, pop music and expert USC Professor Josh Kun tells E! News," Michael Jackson is the man. "

"It has become synonymous with what was pop, and what it is today."

Home

Born August 29, 1958 in hardscrabble Gary, Ind., Jackson is a nightclub performer at the age of 5. The first concert, with older brothers Jackie, Marlon, Tito and Germaine, the group won $ 8, and a billboard-branded the history of the charts, all in a much more useful advice.

"On stage I am at home," Jackson told Oprah Winfrey in 1993. "I was most comfortable on stage, but after talking stage I was very sad.

In 1969 the brothers signed with Motown Records. Their group, Jackson 5, then 11-year-old Michael electrifying lead vocals on, scored his first № 1 hit in 1970: "I want to go back." "ABC", "I Love You Save" and "I will be there, then. As did idol Dom crimes.

Osmond’s their partners lived 1970 Jackson 5 highlife: hit records, magazine covers an animated series and prime time variety show, The Jacksons, who gave early experience to a very young Janet Jackson, Music youngest child and family, half-green David Letterman . Unlike the Osmonds, Jackson 5 does everything breaking barriers as the first teen-idol act of color.

In the middle of all this is Michael, who was on the table-topper on his own in 1972 with Ben, sweet song enough to pass their rat-film roots.

In a unique member of the Jackson 5, reframed as the Jacksons in 1976, Michael Jackson seems primed for a movie star, after costarring as a loose complex bogey against his mentor, Diana Ross, in the Wiz. But in 1978 and bombed-out music of the decade, once bum black market movie with him.

Breakthroughs

Hollywood loses pop music is winning. In 1979, Jackson released his first solo album, off the wall. Although in what is to come, Off The Wall is a powerful work in itself, and the seller, and the production of classic songs like "Rock with you."

Then came Thriller.

Issued in December 1982, presented at the Western wing of the Jackson career and the birth of Pepsi-pitching, Disneyland, it seems, "We are in the world, promoting superstar. Combined with its appearance Moonwalk introduction of Motown 25 TV special in 1983, Jackson and the music was transformed. Revolution, the dawn, but maybe the beginning of the music video era, is broadcast on MTV, which had previously been slow to showcase black artists.

In a 2002 interview with mood Journal, said he knew Jackson Thriller and Off The Wall will be special.

"It is not arrogant, but yeah. Because I know a lot of material, when examined and melodically and sonically and musically, so it moves." Jackson said. "They keep the promise."

Back before the albums were cherry picked from iTunes-downloading consumers Thriller was his own greatest hits list, producing almost as many as there are single tracks, seven in all "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" among them.

"We call the king a lot more," Syracuse University pop culture expert Robert J. Thompson tells E! News. "In this case, it is not exaggeration. He even dressed up."

On Grammy night in 1983, Jackson, decorated in military-style flash jacket, dark shades and single sequined glove, his trademark, carted nearly eight hours awards: seven for the Western and one for his work on children of that year Movie records phenomenon, ET: The Extra-Terrestrial.

Thriller ended up selling more than 104 million copies worldwide. In the United States has spent year’s maneuvers with a volume of Eagles "greatest hits collection for arrogant rights as the recording industry Association of America certified all time bestseller.

Transitions

In its heyday Thriller, Jackson was considered a genius and a man-child, but not necessarily disgraceful. Of course, he attended award shows in the company of Webster star Emmanuel Lewis, and, of course, looked like his nose may have been nipped Off the wall shortly after, but there was nothing to be dismayed at Pepsi, who was hired to sell soda for a new generation (and in the process, burned his hair commercial shoot in 1984), or Disneyland, he starred in the park of the Captain EO attraction.

After a series of small things happen: 1986 photo of him napping in a hyperbaric chamber, A tabloid story touch you want to buy the bones of so-called "elephant man, a menagerie of critters, including Bubbles of chimp, it consists in killing the ranch Neverland, the 2800-acre estate that Jackson turned fantasyland purchased in 1987.

And then a plastic surgery seems to happen. To rely on Jackson, he has only two procedures in his life. But most bystanders begged to differ. Digital Photo technology seemed invented to show how Jackson face, and even the color of his skin, morphed over the years.

By the end of the 1980's, Jackson is all but officially branded eccentric. And he does not care.

"The fans know the tabloid trash is trash," Jackson told USA Today in 2001. "They always say to me, 'Be focused-burning. "

Visits, meanwhile, kept coming: "Dirty Diana", "Man in the Mirror," Smooth Criminal "," Dirty Diana "and more, including the title in 1987 by Bad;" Black and white and 1991 for dangerous.

Trouble

In 1993 Jackson, who at that time was like any kid-championing, if not children friendly artist was accused of molesting 13-year-old boy. Jackson denied any wrongdoing, and no criminal charges were filed. Years later it was reported Jackson paid his young accuser $ 23 million in settlement.

In 1994, shortly after the molestation case was dropped, 35-year-old Jackson Wednesday Lisa Marie Presley. Music business, both babies have been met in Las Vegas in early 1970 years. But if their union had a great back-story-King of Pop married the daughter of the King of Rock, met with a great deal of skeptism. The couple claimed.

"I am not someone to marry for any other reason except that I fell in love with them. Period. Period," Presley told ABC News in 1995. "And they can eat it if they want to think any differently."

Jackson and Presley divorced in 1996.

Music, Jackson seemed to vent their anger over the molestation case in 1995 of "Scream, Wail with Janet Jackson, whose success during the almost rivaled her big brother.

Although the song is a hit, career, Jackson was hit, especially in the United States. As the years passed, Jackson produced more cases, more titles for their strained finances and in unusual behavior, rather than music. A second marriage in 1996 to Debbie Rowe, a former nurse for Jackson, a dermatologist, an artist who had two children, did not change public opinion of the man, dubbed "Wacko Jack of the British press.

Jackson and Rowe divorced in 1999.

More trouble ensued. In 2002 Jackson drew criticism for his country the young child, a son born this year and make nicknamed blanket in front of the press gathered in Paris hotel balcony.

In 2003, months after Jackson told interviewer Martin Bashir, he is innocent "slept in a bed with many children," the pop singer of the Neverland ranch was raided-Jackson and was subsequently arrested. Another child-molestation case was. This time, the case went to trial. So it is a circus.

In 2005 a study pornography, including the testimony of the chimps, Macaulay Culkin and hot air balloon with a plot and briefly sidetracked by the hospitalization of the frail-looking defendant, ended in the cost of Jackson.

Post-trial, Jackson and his children hop scotched the world, eventually returning to the States, though never Neverland. And he never Thriller heights.

Even with all the attacks, says Jackson Kun star never dimmed completely. "Elvis is still remembered glory days of his career," he says. "With Michael Jackson, which is what people will remember most."

Legacy

In late 2007, Jackson, approaching his 50th birthday and look back to the 25th anniversary of Thriller, as described himself grateful for his plan.

"I am very proud that we open doors, he helped unseat a lot," Jackson told Ebony magazine. Work throughout the world made tours in stadiums, you see the impact of music. "

This past March, Jackson announced a series of concerts scheduled for July in London, which would mark, as he put it, "his final curtain call."

"When I say this is it," Jackson said, "This means that it really is"

Jackson is survived by his three children, parents Joe and Katherine his band mates and brothers six hours, including Randy, member of the last day Jacksons and sisters Janet, Rebbie and La Toya.

He also leaves behind 13 career Grammies and record collections scattered throughout the world, 750 million copies of the album lives of Jackson's music.
Rest in peace Michael!
